A walk in the park
Every once in awhile you've gotta toot your own horn. Not often. Just every now and again. So here goes.
Hurricane Ike destroyed much of the Galveston area when it blew through in September 2008. What you may not know is that long after the storm was gone, the city of Galveston got some more bad news. Trees that had withstood the high winds of the hurricane, but then sat soaking in salty flood waters for weeks, all started dying. And the forest service told the city there was nothing that could be done to save them.
So, dying trees, removal of dead trees, and the subsequent loss became a big issue on the Island. McCoy's decided to step up and help by adopting Adoue Park on the Island's East end, and we planted 17 new trees to take the place of the 17 that had to be removed. We've been working with the city of Galveston on this for months, and the trees were finally planted this week!
