Always start with a solid foundation

avoiding foundation cracks

It sounds so cliche to talk about the importance of making sure you have a very strong foundation on which to build. But there's strong, and then there's even stronger. If you could, why wouldn't you do the research and build on the strongest foundation possible based on the type of home you're building? Nobody wants to look up and find cracks in the foundation.

Different soil types have an effect on how much expansion and contraction the ground around a foundation is subject to. Obviously, the more the soil is shifting around, the more you'll want to engineer the slab to deal with all that movement. The following article deals with post tensioned slabs which are engineered to be as stable as possible in soil that has a tendency to act differently based on how wet or dry it is.
