alternative home construction methods

If you're in the process of building a new home, you may be looking at some alternative methods of construction and possibly some alternative building materials. Sometimes you're looking for a bargain, sometimes it may be for sustainability, or perhaps you just want the most energy efficient home you can build for your money.

But how about your goal being to keep things out of the trash! Huntsville, Texas builder Dan Phillips has a rather unique perspective when it comes to alternative materials and construction methods. How about using license plates for shingles? Wine corks for the floor? Or why not use some cow bones for your house numbers? And he's doing all this to help folks who otherwise might not be able to afford their own home.

Got any spare cow bones you're not using?
