Concept home for a downsized economy

By: McCoy's Editorial Team

Good bye, McMansion! Hello, optional rental suite.

If you want to know what the forecast holds for home design in 2010, check out Builder Magazine’s 2010 Concept Home.

This 1,700 square foot home claims that it is easier, faster and cheaper to build and comes in at around $110 per square foot, excluding land costs.

So what’s so great about it? Designer Marianne Cusato, of Katrina Cottages fame, joined forces with building scientist Mark LaLiberte to come up with an efficient, sensible house plan that wastes little, appeals to many, and can be built just about anywhere.

Build better, not bigger.
