Creating energy with the flush of a toilet

By: McCoy's Editorial Team

A student in the United Kingdom has designed a system that converts the kinetic energy created by falling wastewater in multi-level buildings to usable electrical energy. As water flows down the drain in a bath tub or a toilet is flushed in the penthouse suite of a high-rise hotel, the force created to travel several stories is higher than a flush on the first floor. De Montfort University-Leicester student, Tom Broadbent’s, system is up for several awards. The estimated energy saving for a seven story building is around $1,450. While installing the system won’t convert your building into a net-zero property, every little bit helps.
