Don't cut holes in your new coat!

Here's an idea. Next time you buy a new coat, why don't you modify it a bit when you get it home. Say you want easy access to your front pocket so you can grab a pen if you need one. Just cut a small slit in the front of the jacket so you can slide your hand through to get at your pocket. And while you're at it, cut a hole on the rear of the jacket in case you need to scratch your back.

Not a real good idea, right? You are kinda defeating the purpose of that warm jacket. Well did you realize that when you install a top notch air barrier during the construction phase of a home and then make cuts through it for plumbing pipes and electrical runs, you're kinda doing the same thing? You're decreasing it's ability to perform at 100%. The answer: Proper sealing!

Don't let your air barrier let you down
