Here is one that you probably didn't think of, because you didn't realize the technology was at this point. Have you ever considered having a sprinkler system installed on your next new home? Yes, I said a sprinkler system.

Sure, smoke and fire detectors do a great job of warning you to get out of the house, but then what? You wait for the fire fighters to show up while you home burns. And worse yet, what happens if the fire breaks out while no one is around to call the fire department?

Residential sprinkler systems have become affordable. How affordable? How about adding 1% to 2% to the cost of a new home under construction. Definitely something to consider.
