EPA has begun to launch fines against lead rule violators
The EPA’s Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule, commonly referred to as the “lead paint rule” which went into effect in 2010 left many contractors scrambling for certification. The regulation requires remodelers to be certified in lead safety practices when conducting renovations in buildings older than 1978 or risk steep fines, sometimes exceeding $35,000 for a single violation. Several companies have already been cited for failing to distribute informational brochures.
