Housing groups threaten EPA with lawsuit over Lead Paint Rule

By: McCoy's Editorial Team

In the latest news about the EPA’s Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule, several housing organizations, including the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) have joined forces and are threatening a lawsuit against the EPA over recent changes to the rule. Originally homeowners could opt out of RRP regulations, provided that the owner resides in the house, no child under the age of 6 lives there, no pregnant woman lives there, no child-occupied facility is on the property, and he or she has received lead paint educational materials. As of July 6, the opt out is no longer an option.
