I'm not saying your builder is a crook or anything
There are a ton of good, honest contractors, remodelers and home builders out there. We deal with plenty of them every day. But that doesn't mean as a consumer, that you should just blindly trust this person that is going to be involved in what could be one of the most expensive decisions you make in life.
No matter what the circumstance, it's always a good idea to do some research before you hire a contractor or a tradesman. Obviously, how well you know them and know of jobs they have done in your area will determine your trust level. In some cases, you may know someone personally that has used them and seen the quality of the work for yourself. But if you're new to an area or really don't know a contractor's background, you need to do your homework.
And if you are a builder reading this, offering this type of background information up front and making it easier for a prospective client to know more about you, can only enhance your reputation.
