Lead certification deadline is April 22

Repair and remodeler specialists and contractors who work in homes build before 1978 are required to complete a training and certification course before the EPA’s new Lead Paint Rule goes into effect on April 22.

There is a lot of concern that applications will be delayed as contractors rush to meet the compliance deadline. The National Association of Home Builders is encouraging firms to apply now for certification, even if all the individual contractors have not yet completed certified remodeler training. Current reports show that the EPA is taking up to two months to approve certification applications.
