energy star labeled windows may not qualify for federal tax credit

We've talked here before about tax credits you can get for certain energy-efficient home improvement projects, provided that you've used the proper type of products and they're installed correctly. It can get a bit confusing at times keeping up with it all. But, if you were already planning some energy-related renovations around the house, why not take advantage of a tax break if you can.

And to make matters even more confusing, there has been a change in the area of windows and skylights when determining which products qualify and which don't. Used to be, an Energy Star labeled window or skylight qualified for sure. Now the government is looking specifically for a U factor of .03 or below. Just having the Energy Star label no longer cuts it...depending of course on when you did the improvement. In some cases your Energy Star label may still be enough. Got it?
