Passivhaus .... a laid back approach to heating and cooling your home

By: McCoy's Editorial Team

Building envelopes under the Passivhaus standard are required to be extremely airtight compared to conventional construction

We've been following this whole green building movement as, over the last several years, it seems to have gone from a niche building trend to what most would agree is now becoming mainstream. And just what defines a green home or a green building continues to evolve. And with standards like LEED and National Green Building Standards, we are starting to see some consistency in what it means to be green.

Well, throw all that out of the window (just kidding of course). You wanna talk green? How about the Passivhaus standard. The Passivhaus concept (sometimes called Passive House) involves constructing the building envelop around the house super duper air tight. I mean REALLY air tight. A properly constructed Passivhaus doesn't require any HVAC to remain comfortable. Imagine heating your home in the coldest of winters with body heat and other normal household activity.

Heat and cool your home without doing a thing ... sorta
