Study shows moisture-reducing weatherization can help asthma

By: McCoy's Editorial Team

Data on asthma and housing conditions were collected as part of routine Weatherization audits in Maine’s Weatherization program. Living in homes with moisture and/or mold problems has been shown to trigger asthma attacks and is associated with increased respiratory problems. Moisture causing issues like the lack of bathroom and kitchen and dryer vents, roof leaks, and water staining can be addressed by state-recommended weatherization techniques. Based on their results, the study recommended that Weatherization programs give first priority to households with asthma sufferers.

If someone in your home is asthmatic, consider weatherizing
