Tax relief for homeowners with Chinese drywall damage
Following reports of damage to homes in 39 states from drywall imported from China, the IRS is allowing some homeowners to claim the loss on their taxes.
Individuals who have had to repair damage to their homes or household appliances as the result of the corrosive drywall can claim money spent on repairs as lost income. The affected drywall was found to emit sulfurous gases that cause health problems as well as corroding metal in or on electrical fixtures, appliances, plumbing and air conditioning.
Please note that McCoy’s has never carried drywall affected by the recall, so if you are a loyal McCoy’s shopper, this story probably doesn’t apply to you. But you might want to let your neighbor know…
