U.S. military housing builder launches the nation’s largest solar powered community
900 marines and their families will soon be living green at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Installation of solar thermal systems for military housing began there in November 2009 and is expected to be up and running by the end of the year. The solar project is expected to prevent the release of 1,035 tons of CO2 emissions each year, the equivalent of 12.5 tanker trucks’ worth of gasoline. The solar project is being touted as the largest solar-thermal-powered residential community in the continental United States.
