The air control layer system is the primary air enclosure boundary that separates indoor (conditioned) air and outdoor (unconditioned) air.

Having a common language is obviously an important part of clear communication. And even when there are no language barrier issues, communication can still be difficult when local dialects and slang terms are introduced into the conversation. You would think building a house would be a pretty straight forward thing between the builder, his subs, and the home owner. After all, we've been doing it for quite some time.

But some of this lack of clear communication exists in the building process as a result of new construction techniques and new building materials that have come along in our efforts to make more sustainable, energy-efficient homes. Take the whole concept of the building enclosure. Many different terms are used to describe some of the same construction methods and materials. The following post is a fairly thorough attempt to define all the terminology of the building enclosure.

Do you need a stamp on that building envelope?
