Energy Efficient Housing Tax Credits & Grants

The federal government through the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) has allocated several billion dollars nationally for energy-efficient upgrades and weatherization programs for homeowners.
Through 2010, homeowners can claim a 30 percent tax credit for purchases of new energy-efficient furnaces, windows and insulation.
$6 billion will go towards energy efficiency and conservation grants for energy audits, retrofits and financial incentives. Another $5 billion goes toward modernizing the nation’s electricity grid and the installation of smart meters on homes to help save consumers money. $5 billion goes toward weatherization assistance, and $2 billion goes toward energy efficiency remodelling for federal-assisted housing.
