Free battery recycling available at McCoy’s stores

SAN MARCOS, Texas—McCoy’s Building Supply has joined the Call2Recycle program, hosted by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). Through this program, McCoy’s is accepting rechargeable batteries and old cell phones for proper disposal and recycling.

Nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion, and small-sealed lead rechargeable batteries are commonly found in many portable electronics used in businesses such as cellular phones, laptop computers, two-way radios, bar code readers and portable printers. Rechargeable batteries are also found in household electronics such as cordless telephones, cordless power tools and camcorders. When the battery is no longer rechargeable, consumers can now recycle it at McCoy’s.

McCoy’s free battery recycle bins, now available at all locations, are submitted to RBRC for processing.

"Business participation is a crucial part of our program because it puts us in touch with rechargeable power and cell phone users,” says Norm England, RBRC President. “Businesses like McCoy’s are helping to make rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling a reality, and that’s great for the environment.”

McCoy’s decided to adopt the recycling program following the premier of their new Rockwell Tools program in October, which offers free rechargeable batteries for life with any Rockwell tool purchase.

"On average, a contractor customer goes through at least two batteries per tool in a year,” McCoy’s tool buyer, Tara Fickenscher, said. “McCoy’s serves thousands of contractors, which adds up to a lot of potential recycling. We want to make going green easy for our customers and our communities.”

Founded in 1927, McCoy’s is a family-owned retail building supply company providing a complete array of building materials and services to its customer base of those who are “born to build.” The Texas-based company employs more than 2,000 people and operates 85 stores in five states, including Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.Visit www.mccoys.com for more information.
