McCoy’s Celebrates 85 Years with New Location in Taylor

SAN MARCOS, Texas, Aug 30, 2012 – McCoy’s Building Supply is defying the odds and competing with Big Box stores with a tried and true formula that has served them well for 85 years. The family owned and operated company, known for its respectful business practices and down-home attitude, will mark this milestone anniversary with a new location in Taylor, Texas.

taylor_store-mccoys-photoSince 1927, McCoy’s has evolved from a one-store operation in Galveston, Texas into a regional corporation with 83 locations in five states. “We’re passionate about our business and proud of our success, but we never want to lose the special ‘hometown feel’ you experience as a McCoy customer,” says President and CEO Brian McCoy. “The innovations we’ve implemented over the past 85 years are never a substitute for the hands-on customer service.”

Part of the excitement surrounding the Taylor opening includes a brand new store design which focuses on energy conservation. Vice President of Store Development Art Johnson explains. “We’ve simplified our floor plan, increasing its energy efficiency while decreasing its construction timeline.” McCoy’s store development team believes the new energy management system will reduce operating costs and help minimize the company’s future carbon footprint.

A smaller, more efficient store further supports McCoy’s fundamental belief that its “Born-to-Build” customers want to get in, get out, and get back to building as quickly as possible. From serious do-it-yourselfers to independent home builders, McCoy’s retail operation offers quality building materials with the added convenience of a drive through lumberyard.

“We’ve often been asked how we’re able to compete in these tough economic times,” offers McCoy. “It’s simple. We concentrate on doing the things they can’t, like loading your lumber for you and having a manager on the floor. And if you’re a repeat customer, we’re probably going to know what project you’re working on and be able to greet you by name.” McCoy’s has long promoted a ‘Business As Unusual’ culture, with efforts to get to know their customers so they can better serve them. “It’s just one of the things that sets us apart,” he added.

The new store in Taylor will be McCoy’s first since Alpine, Texas in 2007. “With all the possibilities for our newest location, we’re so thankful we were able to come to Taylor,” Vice President of Field Support Meagan McCoy Jones. “It’s a great fit! Taylor is the Zest of Texas, representing the best our state has to offer. Who wouldn’t want to be part of such a wonderful community?”

Taylorites and city officials alike have created an environment of community and economic support that opened the door. “The people of Taylor are absolutely pro-growth,” adds Jones. “This groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new wave of expansion. It’s an exciting time for everyone at McCoy’s.”
