Welcome Home, Rokohl Family
McCoy’s Building Supply is honored to support Helping a Hero and their mission of providing custom-built homes for injured servicemen and women.
A Home for a Hero
Helping a Hero is building a brand-new, wheelchair-accessible home for Corporal Justin Rokohl, United State Marine Corps (Retired) with donations from McCoy’s Building Supply, Bass Pro Shops, and many others. This custom home is designed to provide the independence, safety, and accessibility that Justin deserves while also being a place for him and his family to live, gather, and grow.
Founded in 2006, Helping a Hero is a nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas. Its mission is to support severely injured military personnel and veterans by providing them with homes designed to accommodate their unique needs. Helping a Hero has built over 100 homes across 24 states. Each one is a testament to the organization’s commitment to ensuring that our wounded warriors have a home where they can thrive.
For this build, McCoy’s committed to supplying all interior and exterior doors, moulding, and framing lumber up to a total of $30,000. Shayne Schroeder Homes LLC, a McCoy’s customer from Alice, Texas served as lead contractor on the project, demonstrating his commitment to quality building and service to his community.
Justin's Story
Orange Grove native Cpl. Justin Rokohl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 2008, while serving in Afghanistan, he was hit by an IED and lost both his legs. Since his recovery, Justin has poured his heart into helping others through his creation of the Dark Horse Archery Veteran Foundation which introduces veterans, particularly those with adaptive needs, to the therapeutic and empowering practice of archery. Since 2021, he has connected nearly 200 veterans to the sport, giving them a sense of purpose and community while healing. His dedication to serving others stood out to Helping a Hero during the application process. With the independence this new home will bring, he hopes to help Dark Horse reach even more veterans in need.
McCoy’s is honored to have been a part of this project. The home is in the final building stages with a special ribbon cutting and welcome ceremony planned for early 2025.
