McCoy’s Building Supply Announces Executive Promotions and Realignments

McCoy’s Building Supply recently announced several senior executive promotions and appointments designed to position the company to continue its positive growth and focus on next level company leadership and mentorship.

Meagan McCoy Jones has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. James Lewallen has been appointed to Vice President of Culture and Customer Experience, and Waylon Walker has been promoted to Vice President of Store Operations.

McCoy Jones most recently served as Vice President of Field Support. Representing the fourth generation of McCoys to lead the company, she started as a fledgling employee at age ten when she spent the summer operating the office switchboard. After working in stores and at the company’s headquarters while in school, Meagan’s career began in earnest in 2007 as Assistant Store Manager, where she learned the ropes under the guidance of tenured company veterans. Upon transferring to Corporate Headquarters in San Marcos to concentrate on field support, she shifted her focus to the future of McCoy’s in both business operations and values. Today, her responsibilities include the strategic improvement of operations and growing the next generation of leadership at McCoy’s.

McCoy Jones is looking forward to the challenges ahead. “This position at McCoy’s has awarded me the ability to focus on growing the leadership at McCoy’s through mentorship to improve and continue our legacy as a company that cares about people,” she shares. “I’m honored to be to a part of a connected executive team that is more prepared than ever to grow our business and our future leaders.”

“Meagan’s growing impact and positive influence throughout our company makes me feel honored to co-lead our company with her. Her new position only adds clarity to her role at McCoy’s,” says Brian McCoy.

James Lewallen was appointed to the newly created position of Vice President of Culture and Customer Experience after 32 years with the company, most recently as Vice President of Store Operations. With a focus on future leadership growth, the company felt it was time to create a position with the sole concentration of improving and developing (both internally and externally) the company’s Business As Unusual culture through exceptional customer experience.

The company has long held the belief that its people are its number one asset. Its Business As Unusual culture puts people ahead of profits and recognizes that it takes getting to know each other and caring about others to keep customers returning and employees loyal. “In this new position, I’m most looking forward to taking on the challenge of expanding on the Business As Unusual foundation with even more emphasis on growing our team members and building our relationships with our customers,” explain Lewallen.

“For the last 12 years, James has done a terrific job leading the Regional Managers in the execution of our business plan and has been able to give to others and put people first throughout his career,” explains McCoy. “His previous experience coupled with his new focus will enhance both our internal culture and the experience our customers have while shopping with us.”

Waylon Walker has been promoted to Vice President of Store Operations after 21 years of service, most recently as one of nine Regional Managers. Walker hopes to bring a new energy and focus to the executive team, and his predecessor agrees. “Waylon has the unique opportunity to use his vast operations experience to bring a freshness and renewed vigor to this team and I’m so proud of the remarkable leader he’s grown to be,” says Lewallen.

Walker sees his new position as an opportunity to impact the growth of the company’s 85 stores in sales and customer service, with an eye on expansion. “I’m excited to interact with our team on a much deeper level while building on the solid foundation that James and the rest of our leaders have established,” adds Walker.

All three newly appointed executives had the same answer when asked what customers can expect from them in their new positions. “To wake up each and every day and strive to live by the principles of Business As Unusual and fulfill our purpose statement of making life easier and more fulfilling for those who build.”
