McCoy’s Building Supply Receives Texas Treasure Business Award

Representative Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs) and Senator Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels) recently recognized McCoy’s Building Supply with a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas Historical Commission (THC). TexasTreasureAward

The Texas Treasure Business Award program pays tribute to businesses that have provided employment opportunities and support to the state’s economy for 50 years or more. It was created in 2005 through legislation authored by Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) and sponsored by Representative Charles “Doc” Anderson (R-Waco).

"McCoy's has been a pillar of Texas business since the 1920s, and it's only fitting that this true Texas Treasure be recognized for its contributions to the Lone Star State's economy and communities. Congratulations to the McCoy's family on receiving this historic recognition,” said Representative Isaac.

McCoy’s Building Supply, then McCoy Roofing Company, was started in 1927 by Frank McCoy in Galveston, TX. In the 1940s, Frank's son, Emmett, took an active interest in the family business eventually becoming President of both McCoy Roofing and McCoy Supply Company which sold building materials to the general public.

“As a family business celebrating our 90th year, we are incredibly honored to receive the Texas Treasure Business Award.  Our valued customers served daily by our dedicated and loyal team have allowed McCoy’s to prosper in our great State of Texas,” said Brian McCoy who became CEO and President of the company in 2001.

In 2005, Meagan McCoy Jones joined her father as the fourth generation to be involved with the company’s leadership. “McCoy’s is so proud to still be independent, family-owned, and be headquartered in Texas. It’s our commitment and desire to keep growing our business and impact in the communities we serve,” said Meagan McCoy Jones, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

A special decal identifying the business as a Texas Treasure will be publicly displayed at McCoy’s corporate headquarters in San Marcos, TX and at every McCoy’s store in Texas. Consumers will know when they spot the familiar Texas Treasure Business icon, they are doing business with a well-established, Texas-owned-and-operated business that has long contributed to job growth, stimulated the local economy, and generated state and local tax revenues.

"Texas is a great state for small and family-owned businesses, and McCoy's Building Supply has proven that they are great for our communities. Since its founding, McCoy’s has developed into one of the largest family-run businesses in the building supply industry and employed thousands of Texans, partnering with the San Marcos community on important issues and bringing prosperity to Central Texas,” said Senator Campbell.  “I am proud to represent McCoy’s Corporate Headquarters as part of Senate District 25, and I can think of no family-owned business more deserving of receiving the Texas Treasure Business Award.”
