McCoy’s Building Supply Signs Statement of Support with ESGR

McCoy’s Building Supply, one of the nation’s largest, family-owned building supply retailers, is proud to announce its official commitment to supporting, recruiting and hiring the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and who currently serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

ESGRAt a ceremony in the company’s San Marcos, Texas headquarters, President and CEO, Brian McCoy, will sign a Statement of Support to formalize a partnership with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). “Our military and veteran community has given so much to serve this country and McCoy's stands alongside a grateful nation in appreciation of the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms,” says McCoy. “By signing the Statement of Support, we pledge to continue to honor and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.”

The commitment is a key component of an increased effort by McCoy’s Building Supply to recruit American veterans and service members to join its workforce. “We believe employees who currently serve, or have served, are top-notch talent,” explains Human Resources Manager, Brandon Caldwell. “Their unique strengths in leadership, problem solving, and responsibility are ideal attributes for team members in today’s competitive markets.”

Today, 8% of the company’s workforce is composed of current or retired members of the United States Armed Forces. “I’m humbled by the experience of working with veterans and those currently serving,” offers McCoy. “The work ethic of these employees is exceptional and our business wouldn't be the same without them.”

The company feels a personal responsibility to our country’s soldiers and knows firsthand the skills and acumen these men and women earn during their service. The company’s founder, Emmett McCoy, enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1943, served in the 1884th Engineer Aviation Battalion in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in January 1946. After returning from service, he and his wife, Miriam, raised a family and built a business with the skills and determination Emmett acquired during his years in the military.

McCoy family members have also served in other branches of the military. Frank McCoy, Emmett's father, served in the Merchant Marines and Reid McCoy, Brian's son and member of the company's Board of Directors, saw active duty in the Arabian Gulf as a naval officer. Now in its fourth generation of leadership, the family continues its long history of supporting our nation’s military and veteran communities through charitable donations and personal service.

“I’m proud to sign the Statement of Support with ESGR as a way to honor the service of the McCoy family and each and every employee who serves our great nation,” adds McCoy.

The Statement of Support confirms McCoy's Building Supply joins other employers in pledging:

  • We fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • Our managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.
  • We will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
