McCoy's, Local Contractors Contribute More Than $23,000 to Habitat

MT. PLEASANT, Texas—For a Habitat for Humanity chapter, there are benefits to having the manager of a building supply retailer on your executive board. For an upcoming two-house Habitat build in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, McCoy’s Building Supply manager John Rainey has encouraged the retailer’s vendors and contractor customers to contribute $23,197 worth of supplies and labor.

“My contractor sales rep, John Burke, and I are both very involved with Habitat,” Rainey said. “It would be easy to do a cash donation and be done with it, but we know that what the Mt. Pleasant Habitat needs the most is building supplies in hand and strong backs to do the work. We’ve both been encouraging our vendor partners to donate materials and our contractor customers to give of their time and talents.”

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit group that constructs safe, decent and affordable houses for families in need and relies solely on volunteer labor and donations of money and materials.

McCoy’s vendor contributors include Priefert Ranch Equipment, Transit Mix Concrete, James Hardie Siding, Atlas Roofing, Panel Truss, Atrium Windows, Huber Engineered Wood and Rapid Set. Their material donations add up to more than $16,000 worth of windows, concrete, shingles, siding, drywall, engineered wood, site preparation and more. McCoy’s has also donated doors from it millworks facility and $1,000 cash.

Concrete work was donated by John Brandenburg II Concrete. Castletop Roofing donated the shingles installation. Electric work was done by Troy Clower Electric. Plumbing services were donated by Brandon Walker, Brad Hulse and John Hulse.

Framing for the two Habitat locations will be taking place April 25 at Trinity Baptist Church at 2830 West Ferguson Road. If you would like to assist with the Habitat build, registration is available at the build site starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
