McCoy’s Building Supply Hosts Ultimate Forklift Challenge Finals

Ten competitors recently battled it out in the Ultimate Forklift Challenge Championship at the McCoy’s Building Supply Headquarters in San Marcos, TX. Gabriel Martinez, a delivery driver at McCoy’s Brownwood, TX location took top honors. Baylen Horton, a yard crew member from the Gonzales, TX, store captured 2nd place while Mario Martinez, a yard crew member at McCoy’s Weslaco, TX store placed 3rd. 

McCoy’s held store and regional competitions in five states to narrow down their 1,739 certified forklift-drivers to ten elite challengers. Participants took a written test before attempting the obstacle courses which increased in difficulty throughout the challenge. The final course was the most elaborate with drivers facing challenges that mimicked wet pavement and tight corners. Finalists were cheered on by a group of around 75 spectators and everyone was treated to a lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers after the winners were announced.

“It was so special to watch the incredible skills of the most proficient forklift operators in the company,” shared David Strom, Director of Loss Prevention and Operations Support. “The talent these operators displayed throughout the course was amazing. This was a group effort, with virtually every department at McCoy’s contributing to a successful event.”
