How to Apply a Tax Exemption to Online Orders


For your security, activating your tax exemption for online ordering is a multi-step process. Here are the simple steps to follow to link your in-store purchasing account and your My McCoy's online ordering account so your tax exemption can be applied whether you choose to shop online or in person at your local McCoy's. You may have already completed some of these steps if you already have a tax exemption applied to your in-store account.

Here's what to do.

  1. Submit your government-issued tax exemption form by dropping a copy off at your local store. Our Sales Tax Department at HQ will apply your tax exemption form to your in-store purchasing account.
  2. You must have a My McCoy's account to use your tax exemption online. You can create a new one for free.
  3. Once you have an in-store account and a My McCoy's online account, we'll be happy to link the accounts at your request so you can use your tax exemption when ordering online. To link the accounts, do the following:
    • On desktop or laptop computers:
      • Sign into your My McCoy's account and click on the link in the upper right-hand corner of the website that says "Hi, YourName."
      • From the dropdown menu, click on the My McCoy's link.
      • Click on Invoices and Payments.
      • Fill out and submit the request form. Our Online Services team will promptly connect your account during regular business hours, Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm.
    • On mobile devices:
      • Sign into your My McCoy's account and tap the account icon at the top of the website.
      • Tap the Invoices and Payments link.
      • Fill out and submit the request form
      • Our Online Services team will promptly connect your account during regular business hours, Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm.

Now you're ready for tax-exempt online ordering through your My McCoy's account.

If you only have one purchasing account, it will automatically be selected when you sign in to your My McCoy's account. You can begin shopping immediately with your tax exemption applied.

If you have multiple purchasing accounts, you will need to select the account that has your tax exemption applied to it. You can do this from your My McCoy's account page, the product detail page, or during the checkout process. You will need to do this for every tax-exempt purchase.

Here's how to locate and select the appropriate account if you have more than one.

On Your My McCoy's Account Page:

  • Click on the "Hi, YourName" link on the top right of the website or tap the Account icon if you're on a mobile device, then click or tap the My McCoy's link.
  • Locate the "Account Selected" option and click the dropdown to display your linked accounts.
  • Select the account with the exemption tied to it.

On the Product Detail Page:

  • On the product detail page, locate the "Pricing Account: None" dropdown menu located in the upper right-hand area of the website or above the product title if you're on a mobile device.
  • Click the dropdown to display your linked accounts.
  • Select the account with the exemption tied to it. 

On the Checkout Page:

  • From the cart checkout page, locate the "Order Account" dropdown menu located near the top of the website, under the store information.
  • Click the dropdown to display your linked accounts.
  • Select the account with the exemption tied to it.
